Security and Quality of Life
The government has neglected security and liveability. There is a huge shortage of police officers. If the Netherlands is to be made safer, the number of police officers must be drastically increased. In particular, much more must be invested in visibly present neighbourhood policemen and neighbourhood directors, and in community centres and active neighbourhood fathers and mothers.
The police perform their duties well, but organised undermining (drug) crime is currently tackled at the top, and that approach is failing. If you really want to be successful, you have to start at the roots, i.e. at neighbourhood level, because that's where the shady organisation starts. At the bottom, there is a shortage of neighbourhood policemen, and they are the eyes and ears of neighbourhoods, feelers in the local community, who can intervene at an early stage and, for instance, support the parents of young people who have gone off the rails. There is too much growth of young people who end up in crime and are used by organised crime, for example for bombings that are the order of the day in many places in the Netherlands. Many more neighbourhood policemen are needed to keep a better eye on these young people and support parents.
Punishment, including for young people, must have a clear preventive effect. The total criminal justice chain, police, justice and judiciary must be strengthened. In recent years, sentences have been increased. For instance, before, you were released after nine months, nowadays TBS is imposed and a one-year detention. For some crimes, too little jail time is imposed, then too often community service is given.
Digital crime has taken off. To counter this, much more investigative capacity is also needed.
Residents in areas where liveability is under pressure should be given more perspective. In consultation with municipalities, explore what families need to break through or prevent the accumulation of problems. Use the knowledge and experience gained in urban focus areas to tackle problems elsewhere in the Netherlands as well. Roll out a broad support package for urban focus areas as soon as possible.
Invest in youth crime prevention and education, employment and income to increase the resilience of vulnerable youth.
Improve housing stock and ensure more mixed neighbourhoods with affordable housing for the future prospects of a residential area.
Encouraging more residents to be self-reliant and able to participate in society.
Ensure an integrated approach with clear direction and legal instruments. Invest in poverty and debt prevention, resilience and resilience scheme, educational quality.
Cooperation between citizens and police is essential. Citizens must take responsibility and show respect to the officers. Neighbourhood policemen should be approachable by citizens. In order to tackle crime preventively, investigation in consultation with police and citizens is of great importance.
A policeman's salary is not nearly as bad, but he should be able to afford housing near the working area.
To reduce stress in society and prevent future healthcare costs for health problems, more money should go to police. There should also be better cooperation between municipal departments. With more police and especially neighbourhood officers, and citizens informing the police, society is always cheaper. If there is then a cosy community centre and a snack bar entrepreneur who can do his job safely, our fortune is made.
